Government Housing Bill to tackle housing crisis
The UK government has recently announced a new Housing Bill, which aims to address the ongoing housing crisis by increasing the supply of affordable homes and improving the rental market for tenants.
One of the key measures in the Housing Bill is the introduction of a new Affordable Housing Programme, which will provide funding to local authorities and housing associations to build new affordable homes. The programme aims to deliver 180,000 new affordable homes over the next five years.
Another major proposal in the Housing Bill is the introduction of new standards for rental properties. Landlords will be required to ensure that their properties meet minimum standards for safety, energy efficiency, and overall condition. The government hopes that this will improve the quality of rental properties and protect tenants from unsafe and unhealthy living conditions.
The Housing Bill also includes measures to improve access to social housing, including a new Right to Buy scheme for tenants of housing associations, and increased funding for homelessness services.
